When Philadelphians are flocking and out in full force, you know it’s Restaurant Week! And all things glorious happen during Center City’s Restaurant Week, including my divulging of a tasty chicken sandwich and bites of warm-your-soul buttermilk pancakes …and wine.
Because you know all things are better with wine!
Philly is blessed to have multiple Restaurant Weeks, Center City, South Philly and Manayunk to name a few. Generally held annually, some Restaurant Weeks double dip, like Center City.
My friend Kyle and I ventured to Garces Trading Company, which I enjoyed a few times previously during my undergrad at Temple University (Go OWLS!). Garces had a marvelous Sunday brunch deal for Centre City Restaurant Week 2016 (pictured below) and as a bonus they were waving their corkage fee (normally ten dollars!)
I opted to have ‘actual lunch,’ which is hard to define because on occasion I’ve been known to eat pizza for breakfast and cereal for dinner. I go with what I crave and in the words of my grandmother, ‘I haven’t met a food I didn’t like!’
Out first is my bowl of tomato leak soup, which was as creamy as it was satisfying. The snowflakes have just begun their show as my sandwich comes out. It’s important to note that Kyle has a great view of outside, while the ambiance inside has my gaze. Garces has sunshine-quality light that fills the main area of wood tables that sit 30 or so with high-tops in the entrance and in the back. The bar greets guest who decide to side-step left upon entering. The whole place is a happy place, good vibes all around.
So if you find yourself wondering what to eat for breakfast, lunch or brunch try pancakes and wine, you can thank me later!
