1. AGUA PURA!
Water is life! The only drinkable water in my town was bottled water, even when boiling it they suggested using a bit of bleach.

2. LECHE FRESCA!
I have been without the American-style pasteurized milk for about four months. I’m really excited to have Oreos and milk again, cookies and milk again, pretty much anything and milk again.

3. QUESO!
Cheese, unfortunately in Guatemala, es queso falso, aka no bueno to my taste. After having come off extended time in Italy this was greatly missed.

4. HI AMERICA!
Processing into Miami this time was fortunately very smooth and quick. I need to get my hands on a global entry pass. Usually I get deferred to a special line and get asked more questions than others when I cross borders. (One example: the guy in the UK gave me a tough time, while the man at the next booth next to him let in 5 people while I was still be questioned. Boliviana explora).

5. Hi AMERICAN FOOD!
Considering my first main thoughts were about food, it’s easy to say I’m a foodie. Because America is all about abundance I’ve become even more hyper-aware of how much we waste. Yes, I enjoyed every bit of my Subway footlong.

6. RESILIENCY
I went a little than two months without a hot or even lukewarm shower. There is nothing I can’t do. I also realized how much I value connection to the internet, it’s my lifeline. If two kings can stand next to each other, one is content and the other is Wi-Fi. I also can survive on the bare minimum, about 50 cents a day!

7. LAUNDRY LIFE
I’ve been on the wash-one-wear one cycle for the last few months. I just used a washer and dryer combo, I’m going to be investing in laundry stock. Fresh socks out of the dryer, FTW!

8. WEIGHTED VALUE
All my life I have been used to the weight of a quarter being the heaviest [most-used] American coin, after using the quetzal for a chunk of time the quarter now feels extremely light.

9. TRADITION
What defines our American traditions? More to come on this one, since I learned a lot about the Mayan way of life.

10. HOW SWEET IT IS
Life is very beautiful, it’s in our moments that when we are living life to the fullest, that we shine the most. We are witnesses to God’s creation, walking miracles on this great Earth!

Smiles,
Sam
